Die sind günstig wenn man lust hat diese einmal komplett auseinander zu nehmen und erneut zusammen zu bauen.
Unser Freund in Australien macht das ja mit einem Malaysia Pinzi.

I purchased my Malaysian 718 knowing that I would be spending a lot of time and money on it to get it back to pristine condition.......and I was right !!!!!
If you wanted to do the same, then maybe one of these vehicles would suit, but if want a Pinzgauer that would be considered a practical, reliable transport unit, after spending minimium effort and cost then I'd stay well clear of any of the vehicles shown above.

Can anyone tell me how the malaisians managed to get their pinzgauers in such a bad condition in this short time? I know, the talking about not well trained mechanics, no maintenance, no trained drivers...but all pictures of these Pinzis I came across have serios structural damages, missing parts, serious deformations and so on, which cannot be explained with "bad maintenance", so how comes?
Normaly I would expect mechanical defects (meainly engine, or gearboxes) or rust... things like that an not such wrecks.

G'Day Gregorix, I think a lot of the Malaysian Militaries problems arose from the following facts:

1/. They ordered very little new spare parts from the factory because they thought they could use "local" bits and pieces to keep the vehicles running and in turn they found they had to cannibalise some of there fleet to keep the rest running (as "sprosi" mentioned). I know this was not the fault of the vehicle supplier who originally put in a full contract tender including sufficient spares, but this was ultimately rejected obviously because of the costs etc, in favour of finding locally sourced parts, cannibilisation etc.

2/. They thought they could use local mechanics in the various local areas where the Pinzgauers were based, rather than trained specialists.

3/. Drivers who were not appropriately/specifically trained on driving the Pinzgauers and taking care of it at a basic level.

Some of the "repairs" I have found on my 718 would, as we say in Oz, "make your hair curl" while others simply relate to missing parts.....parts that they could not find locally, were specialised, or weren't inter-changeable, so they simply pulled them off other Pinzgauers in the fleet.

A couple of the "repairs" I have come across......
(apparently my automatic transmission repairer was shocked at some of the repairs he saw inside the box)

Ok, I see it more clearly now...thank you!

I was told that the Malaysians didn't buy many spare parts when they ordered the Pinzgauers. When they started to need maintenance they robbed parts off some of the trucks to keep the others in use. As the 718s were fitted with air con so the 716s were robbed of parts and seems not to have been used as much as the 718s.

They will cost you quite a lot for parts and need a lot of work to get them up to scratch. But they can be worth it if you can do the work yourself.

How do you get them road legal?
(I have my own 716 running and on the road und I don't need more TD Pinzis for myself and I don't want to deal with them (only spare parts) but I want to make shure that the friends here in the forum don't get problems if importing a Malaysia Pinzi and try to get it road legal in Europe)

It seems that you can register the 716 and 718 diesels in Germany but they have to be pre 1996 build vehicles.

In the UK we have no problem registering any age Pinzgauer.

I'm surprised that some countries in Europe have different regulations on registering a used vehicle. You would think that it would be common ground across the EU.

If you think about it most of these Pinzgauers have been built in Austria, sold and registered in a number of countries for military and civilian use. So you wouldn't think that there would be any problems importing them back into Europe.

Austria has a tax charge for reimporting vehicles back into the country which I recently found out.

Well,
almost all of them were built in Graz, Austria, indeed. Nevertheless, they have been equipped to match certain specifications most of which have been prerequisite for being able to register those vehicles in their respective buyer's countries back in the days.

Some of specifications seem to make it a bit difficult to get the vehicles legalized back home - for instance, still, a good two handful of particularly distinct jurisdictions insist on driving on the wrong side of the road.... ;-)

Anyhow, concerning the "u" part of the e.u., you hit the nail right on, mate. no such thing.
