Re: An Austrian made LR Defender???
If Land Rover has to stop production for the Defender due to EU Law, why should Magna be allowed to continue?
I assume they will only manufacture the newer stuff....

Re: An Austrian made LR Defender???
Yes, my understanding is that they would be building the "new model" Defender.

Re: An Austrian made LR Defender???
apard from all rumors, there is no official statement what thea will built in Graz only that it will be a new model of tha landrover jaguar group. therefore it is also likely to be a new jag...
And concerning the diff locks: the latest comercial car developements from Magna Steyr are:
Audi TT
Mercedes E 4 matic
BMW X3
Peugeot RCZ
Mini countryman
partly Aston Martin Vanquish
am affraid this is not a good sign, that it is likely to get a new car with real offroad abilities... neither from magna steyr nor from any other manufacturer...

Re: An Austrian made LR Defender???
Yep, we'll just have to wait and see, but it's still great fun "teasing" all the guys in the LROCV (Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria.....Australia) about the next Defender possibly been built by Magna Steyr.
The new Defender isn't due till the end of 2016 so we'll just have to wait till someone makes an official statement as to what will be built in Graz.
I'd doubt it's going to be a Jag though, as in one of the LR statements they say all Jag production will remain at Castle Bromwich.
BTW All of Australia's final allotment of the "Defender" have been pre sold and they won't even arrive for some time yet.

Peter, should this happen, you should start looking forward to the trade shows and dealership parties. Likely, they'll add some proper styrian food and beer to their current palette of poppadoms and lassi.
Let's at least hope for them that the new thing isn't again designed by the likes of posh spice, they surely need some proper workhorse in their portfolio, not another beautycase or chelsea tractor.
