Demontage Armaturenbrett
Hallo,

Re: Demontage Armaturenbrett
If your dashboard is held in with nuts and bolts (screwdriver ends) then you will have to get learn to do things by "feel" - in other words, without looking at what is happening at the back of the dashboard.
The nut is likely to be a size 8mm, so an 8mm ring spanner in one hand, up behind the dashboard, feel where the nut is, put the ring spanner on and hold it tight. Undo the screw from the outside.
When you have taken the dashboard off, maybe you can make a "captive nut" arrangement to hold the nut in place so you do not have to bend your arm in three directions to get to it!
There are lots of thing on a Haflinger that were not thought out very well - They work, but just are not the best way of doing that task if you have to mend some thing! Classic example, the inspection covers on the side of the engine bay - not big enough to be able to take a cylinder head off and out of! (they don't line up properly either).

Hi John,
thanks for the tip. What kind of captive nut would you take?

Re: Demontage Armaturenbrett
The bolt goes through a piece of tubing behind the dash. So there is just a plain hole going through the tube.
There are lots of different ways you could fix a captive nut, or even change the way the dashboard is fastened to the tubing.
In no particular order or even an exhaustive list the following methods spring to mind:-
Glue a nut to the back of the tube with 2 part epoxy glue.
Braze a nut on the back of the tube.
Weld a nut on the back of the tube.
Use something like this:-
http://www.zygology.com/store/pc/viewCo ... ?idpage=78
(You make the hole on the front surface of the tube just big enough for the POP jack nut to go through, then wind the bolt in and do it up tight, it pulls the threaded bit towards the front and it grips the inside of the tube to hold the threaded section in place)
I am sure you can think of something similar to do if bending you hand round up the back is too much trouble....
Regards,
John
